Fishing Boats – Cassis France
Richard Smith was born and raised in Tauranga and from a young age has had interest in drawing and painting. As a child many hours were spent in his fathers boat building workshop observing and drawing boats under construction, developing the skills and techniques now evident in his work. It is from these years and times spent in and around the marine environment that he gleaned knowledge of boats and of the mercurial nature and characteristics of water. This affinity with the local marine environs has had a formative and lasting influence on my his approach to painting.
